TRUE INCIDENT by Ranjani - Useful for people traveling in Chennai buses!!
" I m working in Chennai One(Thoraipakkam), Chennai. I usually travelby
Metropolitan Transport Corporation(MTC) bus, from jain college stop (Which
is near to my office) to tidel park and from Tidel park I will catch train,
to home. MTC bus coming from kelambakkam(19B,21H) mostly wont stop in tidel
park in early days. So I usually prefer to get into T51 bus, which will
stop in tidel park stop. After some time 19B started stopping in tidel park
also.
Today while returning from office at around 8.30 pm, I was in a hurry to
catch my 9.28 pm train at Tidel park. I got up a bus(19B) in Jain College
at around 8.45 pm, and asked the conductor to give a ticket for tidel park
stop. He said, the bus wont stop there, and he asked me to get down at
signal if it stops there or else get down at stop next to tidel park. I was
argugingwith him that I am going daily with the same bus and get down in
the tidel park stop. But he kept on saying the same thing.. I got
irritated with conductor response. Suddenly I remembered a complaint phone
no.(9884301013) I read in one bus sometime back and noted down in my
mobile. I called that no. and said about the incident that conductor is not
stopping in the usual stop.
The MTC representative (person at the other end) asked me to give the phone
to the conductor. The conductor was not interested to talking with his
official. The MTC rep. asked me the bus registration no. He enquired where
is the bus at that time and I said it is in Kandhanchavadi. The MTC rep.
said he will come in the line and talk to them. I was curious how he will
come and catch the bus.
After few mins. the wireless transmeter(to track the bus), near the driver
in the bus started shouting... Driver stop the bus. Driver stop the bus in
the left side of the road. Driver was not sure what is happening may be his
first experience, for others(including me) it is the real first
experience. The driver stopped the bus and started listening to the
transmeter. The MTC rep. enquired why the bus is not stopping in tidel park
stop. The driver said he stops in tidel park stop and in the previous trip
also he has done. The rep. asked him then why the conductor is saying like
that. He asked the conductor what is the issue. The conductor was
speechless. The driver somehow managed the situation and supported the
conductor by saying that the conductor was new to this route. The driver
asked excuse for the incident and said he will stop in the Tidel Park stop
The MTC rep. said he wanted to talk the penger who called him. I went
near the transmeter and spoke to the MTC rep. He said sorry for the
incident happened and asked sorry on behalf of MTC. Everyone in the bus
were surprised of things happening. I came back to my seat and I was so
embarred as all were looking at me. Few pengers asked me what is the
number, and whom I called. They also took the number. The bus stopped in Tidel Park
stop then. After getting down I called the MTC rep. and said the bus
stopped in the stopping.
It was a nice experience for me and others who traveled in the bus,
including driver and conductor and I was very surprised after this incident.
Yes, nowadays good things are happening in government sector also and
technology is used properly."

DescriptionChennai: With the death of a 23-year-old MBA student, who was run over by a city bus in Chromepet on Wednesday, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) fleet has claimed its 60th victim this year. In other words, MTC buses have killed six persons every 32 days a little over the last six months.
Incidentally, MTC buses had claimed over 100 lives in 2011. Till June last year, 53 persons were killed by the city buses. Data available with City Express shows that as many as 51 persons were killed by MTC buses between January and May 2010, while 47 persons died in accidents involving MTC buses during the corresponding period in 2009. Besides, hundreds have suffered both simple and grievous injuries every year in road accidents involving MTC buses.
Though the figures are alarming, official sources claimed that MTC buses were involved in a fewer number of fatal accidents when compared to those of other transport corporations in the State. “MTC buses are involved in minimum number of fatal accidents, perhaps the least, despite its larger fleet strength,” an MTC official said.
Pointing out that buses of another transport corporation, which operates long distance services were involved in the maximum number of fatal accidents this year despite having a lesser fleet strength, the official said, “It is not true that the MTC, with 3,497 buses, is involved in higher number of accidents.” Given the vehicle density in the city, MTC buses have fared well on the road , he added.

As there is heavy buses and four wheelers are moving on the road all public are forced to walk only on the road. Absolutely there is no safety to the public. No corporation officials, Transport dept and Traffic controllers are interested to help the public. Is there any way to raise the right for the public to clear the foot path? Lot of politicians raised their hands and shouted at this area at the election period to do service to the public. Where they are? Did they see this encroachment? We can clearly see how the garbage drum is located and maintained? How come the ward member and MLA miss this type of illegal encroachment and un maintained garbage bins in a residential area.
What is the Corporation of Chennai doing? Primarily, there should be no reluctance in punishing the officers for ignoring this type of encroachment. Wanted to know if there re any possibilities to find out the officer who gave approval for this illegal construction?

Description1. Short le and commencement:
(1) This Act may be called the Anti-Corruption, Grievance Redressal And Whistleblower Protection Act, 2010.
(2) It shall come into force on the one hundred and twentieth day of its enactment.
2. Definitions:- In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,
(1) "Action" s any action taken by a public servant in the discharge of his functions as such public servant and includes decision, recommendation or finding or in any other manner and includes willful failure or omission to act and all other expressions relating to such action shall be construed accordingly;
(2) "Allegation" in relation to a public servant includes any affirmation that such public servant -
(a) has indulged in misconduct, if he is a government servant;
(b) has indulged in corruption
(3) "complaint" includes any grievance or allegation or a request by whistleblower for protection and appropriate action.
(4) "corruption" includes anything made punishable under Chapter IX of the Indian Penal Code or under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988;

DescriptionAccording to the Tamil epic Manimekalai, Poompuhar on Tamil Nadus east coast was swallowed by the sea following the curse of a goddess. The myth says that a Chola king, mourning his sons death, forgot to celebrate the annual spring festival, Indra Vizha and incurred the deitys wrath. Historians today believe that the disaster that hit the port town was a tsunami. Centuries later, the 2004 tsunami that raed modern-day Poompuhar has posed a big challenge to archaeologists. The ancient town lies buried in the sea and divers of the Goa-based National Insute of Oceanography will have to scrape through layers of sediment, sea barnacles, flora and fauna to piece together the story of the busy port town that had trade links with the east and the west.
